We’ve been using brown pressure treated lumber, branded as MicroPro Sienna, for three seasons now. It has many of the benefits of pressure treated lumber while looking similar to cedar. This is a fairly large brown pressure treated deck that we built in late July of 2015 in north London, ON.
This deck has a few unique features. The upper level has angled corners and then steps down to rectangular sitting area with a built in bench and steps on both sides. We used ProBuilt Aluminum railing for the deck with glass panels on parts of it. The deck was also extended out 22′ from the house to get a view of downtown London.
To add some interest to the skirting of the deck we ran horizontal boards with trim pieces hiding our joints. Adding the trim and running the boards horizontally gives everything some depth by creating different layers. Sometimes it’s small things that set a deck apart.
